Please join us on September 11th at the Monroe County Emergency Headquarters Station located at 693 Juliette Road in Forsyth. We will begin with a 20th Anniversary of 9/11 Service at 8:30am. The event will start with the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem and will continue for the following two hours with the Federal Q Siren sounds at the exact times in which the planes flew into the World Trade Center Twin Towers and the Pentagon, as well as the time in which United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. A 375 square-foot American flag will hang from a ladder truck during the memorial and 343 smaller flags (in memory of the 343 New York City firefighters killed on Sept. 11, 2001) will be placed in the front lawn at precise distances in the shape of 9-11. The memorial will conclude following a 10:30am reading of Paul Harvey’s firefighter tribute poem, “Fire and Ice”. At the end of the ceremony, the fire truck ladder will be lowered and the truck will then lead a 10-minute processional beginning at 10:50am from the MCES headquarters through downtown Forsyth to the Historic Hubbard Campus at 500 Hwy 83 South, where the Hubbard Alumni Association Open House and Ribbon – Cutting will commence at 11:15am.
